Hunted by the Wind - Saint Soupplets Youngsters 414km, Ramessa our First Pigeon!

Some races are about winning. Others are about learning, fighting and discovering what your young birds are really made of. Saint Soupplets was one of those races. Ramessa NL26-8475252NL26-8475252 was again our 1. Pigeon, like last week from Dizy Le Gros, winning 1. against 1,742 pigeons and fastest from the whole releasing 4,858 pigeons. Her mother is Ramona, NL21-1668280NL21-1668280, she won a.o. 7. Ace Pigeon Middle Distance CC7 and 11. National Ace Old Birds Pipa 2023. Flash Valitas NL26-8475030NL26-8475030 was our 3. Pigeon today, last week from Dizy le Gros 312km. this child of  Flash Leo"Flash Leo" was 2. fastest from 4,858 pigeons!

With a distance of 414 kilometres and a strong southwesterly wind, the youngsters were released at 08:10. What followed was a race in which the wind was absolutely relentless. We know that our location in the Netherlands is not the most favourable one when the wind comes strongly from the southwest. In these conditions, winning a first prize from our location is simply a much bigger challenge. But that does not take away from what our youngsters achieved. 

This season, our young birds have already learned an incredible amount. Every race has added another chapter to their education, and Saint Soupplets was another important lesson.

They had to fight the wind, find their way home and, above all, keep going. And that is exactly what they did. One after another, the youngsters began to arrive. Often they came quickly one behind another, and most importantly, the team was almost completely home. For us, that is something to be extremely proud of. Of course, as pigeon fanciers, we always want to win. We dream of the big result, the first prize, the perfect arrival. But races like this remind us that there is much more to building a successful team than one result on a result sheet. A young pigeon that fights through difficult circumstances, finds its way home and returns to the loft with confidence has learned something that cannot be taught in a basket.

Building for the future

These youngsters have been through a tremendous amount this season. They have experienced different weather conditions, different distances and different challenges. And with every race, they have become wiser and stronger. That is why we are so proud when we see them coming home from a race like Saint Soupplets. And when they arrive, even some in small groups, with the team almost completely back together, how we started in the beginning of this season, it gives us enormous confidence for the future. This is exactly what we want to see in our youngsters.We are not only racing for today. We are building for tomorrow.

The lessons these young birds have learned this season will hopefully become the foundation for next year. Their experience, their resilience and their ability to handle tough circumstances are qualities we value enormously. So, while Saint Soupplets may not have brought us the victory we always hope for, it gave us something equally important: confidence in our youngsters. They were hunted by the wind, but they kept fighting their way home.

And that makes us very, very proud.
